Two Way Radio Licencing

Excepting Licence-Free radios, PMR446, if you use a two way radio system for your business, you will need a licence from Ofcom (The Office of Communications). Business radio users range from taxi companies and factories, to hospitals, care homes, industrial sites and transport operators.

Ofcom is responsible for managing civilian use of the radio spectrum. Their work involves releasing spectrum for new uses as well as developing policies to ensure that the spectrum is used efficiently.

Two Way Radio equipment and systems hired for a building, site, project or event, will be supplied with standard 'Short Term Hire Frequencies' issued by Ofcom to The Radio Company as a radio equipment supplier. It is important to note that this licence does not guarantee that you will not receive interference on your channels, as all radio dealers in the UK are issued with the same frequencies for radio hire. Of course, our Engineers will use an array of technologies and features to minimise this effect.

Where standard Ofcom frequencies are not appropriate, The Radio Company can apply for short-term, dedicated event licences to ensure that communications critical to the smooth running of your project or event are maintained. There is a charge for this service, however it will give you peace of mind that your radios will not incur any interference for the period that you have hired the equipment for.

If you are looking to hire radios for use outside of the UK, you will require a radio licence from the country you intend to use the equipment in. The Radio Company have a wealth of experience successfully obtaining licenses in countries as diverse as France, Croatia, Italy, Switzerland and Malta.
