Basic Information relating to the use of Two Way Radios.

PMR446 (Unlicensed) Radio

PMR446 (Private Mobile Radio, 446 MHz) is a part of the UHF radio frequency range that is open without licensing for business and personal use in most countries of the European Union.

Licensed Radio

PBR (Professional Business Radio) or PMR (Private Mobile Radio) are radio systems that use frequencies (channels) that are administered by OFCOM, the UK Licensing Authority.

(OFCOM) License Types

If you use a radio system for your business then you will need a licence from Ofcom. Business radio users range from taxi companies and factories, to hospitals, care homes, industrial sites and transport operators.

The Office of Communications, commonly known as Ofcom, is the government-approved regulatory and competition authority for the broadcasting, telecommunications and postal industries of the United Kingdom.

Two Way Radio

A two-way radio is a radio that can both transmit and receive (a transceiver), unlike a broadcast receiver which only receives content.
