Motorola Solutions is exceeding these requirements with the introduction of the new feature-rich, next-generation MOTOTRBO trunking solution called Capacity Max.

MOTOTRBO Capacity Max also supports the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) standard for multi-vendor interoperability, including the Tier III mode of operation.

Capacity Max supports the industry-leading MOTOTRBO Application Developer Program where Motorola Solutions has created the largest ecosystem of in-house and third-party applications on the market. The application portfolio offers customers true value-add solutions that have expanded the capabilities of two-way radio far beyond traditional voice communications. Examples include control room solutions that enable efficient management of mobile workforces and automated alarm management that enhances safety and improved response times.

A SCALABLE, HIGHER PERFORMANCE AND LOWER COST SOLUTION

The new MOTOTRBO solution is scalable from small, single-site systems to large, complex projects that demand greater capacity (up to 3,000 users per site) and higher levels of performance from voice and data-intensive communications deployments. Customers also gain greater control through sophisticated management and monitoring tools that optimize the performance of the MOTOTRBO radio communications system.

The simple and efficient system architecture utilises a standard Internet protocol (IP) network with a centralized server – further reducing cost of ownership. Multiple levels of fault tolerance ensures that there is no single point of failure and the system is extremely secure, with optional Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption. To minimize cost and operational impact for existing customers, Motorola Solutions has enabled a smooth migration path from legacy analogue and MOTOTRBO solutions to Capacity Max.

Instead of permanently allocating radio channels to a specific purpose, a trunked system temporarily allocates a channel from a pool of available channels, and only when it is needed. Largest mall in United States is expanding and Motorola Solutions’ MOTOTRBO™ digital two-way radios are replacing old analog system to meet mall’s growing needs

SCHAUMBURG, Ill – November 12 –Mall of America®, the largest mall in the U.S. and one of the most visited destinations in the world, is expanding and has chosen Motorola Solutions’ (NYSE:MSI) MOTOTRBO™ digital two-way radio system to help improve communications and provide flexibility for additional capacity to accommodate future growth.

The mall, located outside Minneapolis, Minnesota, is already the size of some cities and home to 520 stores, more than 50 restaurants, the largest indoor theme park and other attractions. The mall needed to enhance security with instant, always-available communications as the older, analog system experienced coverage and frequency issues, as well as static and interference which hindered employees’ ability to communicate.

“Mall of America operates like a municipality in that our operational entity is vast and our employees can be anywhere and everywhere at any time,” says Chad Martin, communications manager, Mall of America Security Department. “We need to know that our radio communications are seamless and that as technology advances, we can integrate our radios with other systems such as those used by local public safety agencies. MOTOTRBO provides that reliability for all departments, from security and engineering to housekeeping and grounds keeping.”

The four-level mall, with 5.5 million square feet of retail space and punctuated with concrete walls, parking ramps and service corridors, uses a MOTOTRBO system to help eliminate potential dead zones and allow mall staff to communicate clearly at any moment.

Unique features of MOTOTRBO radios were crucial to Mall of America officials’ decision to switch to Motorola Solutions. In the past, radio interference made it difficult for mall dispatchers to know who was calling or to understand messages. Now with a radio caller ID feature, users know where a call originates, such as an exterior maintenance vehicle, patrol officer or housekeeper. MOTOTRBO’s “transmit interrupt” feature allows users to send priority transmissions so they can immediately break into radio traffic and convey instant information.

“Visitors to Mall of America expect an enjoyable and secure environment,” said Claudia Rodriguez, vice president, Devices Product Management, Motorola Solutions. “Motorola Solutions’ MOTOTRBO digital radio system and Infinity Wireless are helping mall officials create that environment with the latest digital radio communications for security and other mall personnel.”

Mall of America staff worked with Motorola Solutions’ partner Infinity Wireless to upgrade the analog radios to MOTOTRBO digital communications. MOTOTRBO XPR 7550, XPR 5500 and SL 7500 Series two-way radios were distributed to employees in security and other departments to provide loud, clear and reliable communications in more rugged, slimmer and lightweight devices.

A multi-million dollar expansion of Mall of America, which will likely include additional retail, attractions, hotel and office buildings, is planned during the life of the contract with Infinity Wireless and Motorola Solutions. The flexibility of the MOTOTRBO system will allow additional radios to be deployed, and coverage and capacity can be expanded using MOTOTRBO Capacity Plus to accommodate new users.

Melbourne, Australia – Nov. 9, 2015 – Motorola Solutions opened its new Australian Innovation Centre today, creating a centre for collaboration and technology co-creation with its customers and partners to solve everyday challenges faced by the public safety sector and heavy industries.

Motorola Solutions also unveiled its vision for the future of public safety at the event, Next Generation Mobile Intelligence (NGMI), which harnesses a mix of mobile broadband technologies to place the right information into the hands of Australia’s first responders so they can make better and faster decisions to keep communities safe.

Technology demonstrations based on everyday events helped to bring the NGMI vision to life and highlight the difference that greater infield intelligence will have in enabling public safety agencies and industries reach new levels of safety and performance.

This included the use of the latest software applications developed with Motorola Solutions’ smart public safety solutions partners to analyse criminal patterns within ‘big data’ to solve crimes faster and more efficiently, as well as intelligence-led public safety and citizen engagement solutions which help law enforcement agencies anticipate and respond to incidents with the best information available.

The latest, mission-critical public safety devices are also on display – from body worn cameras used to capture, store and manage vast amounts of video evidence, to field deployable public safety LTE units to create instant broadband access in emergencies and drones designed specifically for public safety use.

The centre was officially opened by Victorian Innovation Minister, Philip Dalidakis, who challenged Victorian businesses and entrepreneurs to continue to drive innovation in the state.

Motorola Solutions’ US-based chief technology officer, Paul Steinberg, also spoke at the launch, highlighting the importance of broadband innovation for the future of public safety and enterprise industries.

Schleswig-Holstein moves to digital communications technology to keep cities safe

25,000 Motorola Solutions digital TETRA radios for fire departments, emergency services and civil protection agencies will “keep cities safer”

IDSTEIN, GERMANY – Nov. 6, 2015 – The German federal state of Schleswig-Holstein has started the migration to TETRA digital, mission-critical communications radio technology for 1,500 non-police public-safety organizations. Used by fire departments, emergency services and civil protection agencies, the new Motorola Solutions devices will enable users to respond faster and more effectively to keep cities safe.

To mark this important milestone, Christoph Thomas, managing director, Motorola Solutions Germany GmbH, personally delivered a specially designed MTP850FuG radio emblazoned with the crest of Schleswig-Holstein to the representatives of the regional authorities of the state.

Motorola Solutions was awarded the order by the Central Procurement Office of Schleswig-Holstein AöR (GMSH). The company will deliver and deploy approximately 25,000 TETRA devices including MTP850FuG TETRA portable radios and MTM800FuG TETRA vehicle mobile radios, as well as accessories such as antennas, headsets and protective holsters.

The robust and reliable TETRA digital radio solutions have been developed for mission-critical users and support end-to-end encryption in accordance with the requirements of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) to ensure highest security standards. Encryption protects radio communications from being heard by people for which they aren’t intended, including criminals. The radios also have an intuitive user interface for ease of use in moments when every second counts.

“The TETRA digital radios from Motorola Solutions succeeded during the EU-wide mobile radio tender for our non-police public safety authorities in Schleswig-Holstein,” explained Hans-Adolf Bilzhause, managing director of the GMSH, which conducted the tender for the communal state associations of Schleswig-Holstein. “The comprehensive assessment revealed that the radios are the best solution for secure communications of fire departments, emergency services and civil protection in Schleswig-Holstein.”

Motorola Solutions Reports Third-Quarter 2015 Financial Results

OTHER SELECTED FINANCIAL RESULTS
 

 

  • Revenue - Sales decreased 1 percent, including $54 million of unfavorable foreign currency impact. Sales grew 3 percent in constant currency terms. These results reflect 5 percent growth in North America, which delivered improvements in both Products and Services sales in state and local governments along with strong performance in the U.S. Federal business. Overall company product sales were flat due to currency headwinds and weakness in the Latin America region. The Services business declined 3 percent primarily due to currency headwinds, lower iDEN revenue and a decline in systems integration revenues in Norway.
  • Operating margin - GAAP operating margin was 16.2 percent of sales in the third quarter of 2015, compared with 14.4 percent in the third quarter of 2014; non-GAAP operating margin was 20.5 percent of sales, compared with 18.0 percent in the third quarter of 2014, reflecting $39 million in lower operating expenses compared with the third quarter of 2014, due to the company's cost reduction initiatives, lower pension expense and a stronger dollar.
  • Taxes - The third quarter of 2015 GAAP effective tax rate was 36 percent. This compares with a tax rate of 56 percent in the third quarter of 2014, which included a $55 million tax expense related to a valuation allowance. The third quarter of 2015 non-GAAP tax rate was 35 percent, compared with a tax rate of 33 percent in the third quarter of 2014. The full-year non-GAAP tax rate is expected to be approximately 33 percent. The full-year cash tax rate3 is expected to be approximately 15 percent.
  • Cash flow - The company generated $300 million in operating cash from continuing operations during the quarter, reflecting an increase of $415 million over the prior year. Free cash flow was $250 million in the quarter. The increase was largely driven by $397 million in lower pension contributions and improved earnings performance.
  • Cash and cash equivalents - The company ended the quarter with cash and cash equivalents of $2.2 billion and a net debt position of approximately $2.2 billion4. The company repurchased approximately $2.1 billion of its common stock in the third quarter of 2015 and paid approximately $70 million in cash dividends.

BUSINESS OUTLOOK
 
Fourth quarter 2015 - Motorola Solutions expects a revenue decline of 6 to 8 percent compared with the fourth quarter of 2014. This assumes a $65 million5 unfavorable currency impact, which translates to a revenue decline of 3 to 5 percent in constant currency. The company expects non-GAAP earnings per share from continuing operations in the range of $1.45 to $1.50 per share. This outlook is driven primarily by further weakness in Latin America and incremental currency pressure.

Technology and citizen participation are transforming public safety in Latin America

Public safety study conducted by the University of Santiago, Chile and supported by the Motorola Solutions Foundation identifies the most innovative and effective public safety practices in Latin America

SANTIAGO, Chile – Oct. 29, 2015 – A new study from the University of Santiago, Chile  and supported by the Motorola Solutions Foundation assessing public safety in Latin America has found that technology and citizen participation are transforming public safety.
 
The study, "Technological Innovation for Public Safety in Latin America: Situation and Innovation in Public Policies” identifies positive changes following modernization and investment, mainly in public safety technology, combined with increasing citizen participation in crime prevention and timely alerts in case of emergencies.
 
The first part of the research included assessing the general public safety situation, and the second part focused on identifying the most innovative and effective practices implemented in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama and Peru.
 
For example, in Canoas, Brazil, the installation of surveillance cameras on public streets and weapon detection sensors successfully reduced the homicide rate by almost 50 percent during the last years.
 
“New technologies are being used to coordinate response efforts and allow family and friends to connect more quickly,” said Lucía Dammert, associated professor of the humanities department at the University of Santiago, Chile. “In particular, the study found a growing awareness of public safety LTE technology for emergency communications. Some countries, such as Panama, Brazil and Chile, have already defined dedicated spectrum for this technology with a focus on public protection and disaster management."
 
Dammert added, "We're seeing a growing use of technology to minimize the consequences of emergency situations caused by natural disasters. Some major consequences include a lack of basic supplies and anxiety produced by uncertainty and misinformation.”
 
PUBLIC SAFETY
The growing use of technology has exposed the need for better information systems and greater intra- and inter-institutional coordination. It also highlighted the importance of providing training for the different public safety agencies to capitalize on the use of new technological tools and resources, and suggested that citizen participation is more efficient when it is supported by integrated management practices and new technologies.
 
NATURAL DISASTERS
Although the region is equipped with a series of early alert systems, opportunities exist to further reduce vulnerabilities. The study shows that natural disasters increase the probability of violent social conflict by 30 percent. From all kinds of natural disasters, floods were responsible for the most casualties in the region between 2000 and 2013 (5,685), and earthquakes caused the most economic damage. During the same period, the economic impact of natural disasters to South America was $31 billion.
 
CONCLUSIONS
This study recommended that public policies be flexible enough to respond to new crime dynamics and incorporate new technologies. It also detected the need for greater response coordination between different emergency and safety organizations. At the same time, it found that larger investments in technological innovations are required in order to bolster their use in public safety. Constant monitoring and evaluation of the implementation and impact of these initiatives is also needed.
 
The study contributes to information sharing and the dissemination of the most innovative prevention, crime control and emergency response practices in Latin America.

The 2015 IACP-Motorola Solutions Webber Seavey Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement will be presented at 10 a.m. today during the IACP Annual Conference first general assembly to the Leesburg, Virginia Police Department; Vancouver, British Columbia Police Department; and the Waterloo, Ontario Regional Police Service.

Leesburg, Virginia Police Department: Organized Retail Crime
Using evidence-based policing, the department identified an increase in organized shoplifting and losses exceeding those reported to law enforcement. Using a three-prong approach including high-visibility patrols, education and theft prevention operations, Leesburg has experienced a sustained reduction in organized retail crime, and an increase in the reporting of shoplifting and associated losses.

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Police Department: Assertive Outreach Team
In part of the city’s downtown area, 3 percent of the population accounted for 25 percent of all reported mental health calls to the department. Both health and police data highlighted that residents with repeated admission to hospital emergency departments also had increased interactions with police prior to obtaining treatment. To address these issues, police officers teamed up with nurses and other healthcare professionals to transition residents from local emergency departments to appropriate community services. As a result of their efforts, there has been a 77 percent reduction in violent offences by these residents.

Waterloo Regional Police Service, Ontario, Canada: Connectivity Waterloo Region
More than 80 percent of calls for service in the Waterloo Region are non-criminal in nature and are about residents impacted by poverty, addiction and mental health issues. To address these calls, the Waterloo Regional Police Service created an early-intervention program with multiple agencies to connect high-risk individuals and families to services and support within 24 to 48 hours. Since implementation, 139 individuals and families have been connected with the right service professionals to help meet their needs, and there has been a significant reduction in the repeated use of expensive emergency and crisis response services.

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Oct. 22, 2015 – The Motorola Solutions Foundation, the charitable arm of Motorola Solutions, announced today that it will help launch a program focused on community-police relations as a founding sponsor.

The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), based in Alexandria, Va., will lead the Institute for Community-Police Relations, which will help drive the implementation of recommendations set forth in the recently published 2015 White House Task Force Report on 21st Century Policing.

The institute will take the task force’s recommendations and provide educational materials for local law enforcement agencies across the country. It will also provide on-site training for police forces, facilitate citizen-police dialogue to improve trust and develop a national mentoring program among chiefs of police.

“Building and maintaining community trust is the cornerstone of successful policing,” said IACP’s President, University of Central Florida Police Chief Richard Beary. “The generous backing provided by Motorola Solutions Foundation will enable the Institute for Community-Police Relations to provide support to state, local and tribal law enforcement and address the issues identified by the task force and IACP’s National Policy Summit on Community-Police Relations: Creating a Culture of Cohesion and Collaboration.”

The Motorola Solutions Foundation is also granting $3.95 million to 90 non-profit organizations to help improve safety and security in communities across the United States and Canada, as well as honor the families of fallen first responders and help bolster public safety education. More than 675,000 first responders and community members will benefit from the programs funded through the competitive review process.

“At a time when public safety is at the forefront of so many people’s minds in cities around the world, we are proud to support programs that aim to improve safety and security in our communities,” said Matt Blakely, executive director of the Motorola Solutions Foundation.

Here are a few examples of the impact the public safety grants awarded last year have had so far:

  • ​The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) provided training to law enforcement agencies on model policies and best practices to respond to missing children cases. Last year, NCMEC partnered with IACP to reach its largest audience ever of 14,000 public safety professionals.
  • The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation provided scholarship assistance to 78 family members of fallen firefighters for education and job training costs.
  • The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation delivered police suicide prevention and stress management seminars to 300 command personnel and supervisors.
  • The Texas Game Warden Underwater Search and Recovery (SAR) Team used grant funds to train game wardens on safe and effective water rescues and to provide them with equipment. This year, historic flooding endangered the lives of many Texans and the resources helped game wardens save lives with no officer injuries.
  • The Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) partnered with police executives from across the country to research, discuss and publish findings on critical issues in policing.
  • The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars provided scholarships to about 300 students with a career interest in public safety and criminal justice.
  • The American Red Cross of South Florida educated low-income neighborhoods about the importance of fire safety through presentations and installation of smoke detectors.
  • The Fisher House Foundation provided lodging to families of service members and veterans receiving care at a military or Veterans Affairs medical center and supported the construction of 10 new Fisher Houses.

The importance of capturing, storing and properly managing video evidence has never been greater for law enforcement agencies of all sizes. Calgary Police on Front Line of Public Safety Innovation

Calgary Police Service is using Canada’s first dedicated public safety long-term evolution (LTE) network to access, collect and analyze valuable data

Public safety LTE helps improve safety and efficiency for first responders and the communities they serve

CALGARY, ALBERTA – Oct. 19, 2015 – Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI), Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) and the Calgary Police Service are currently demonstrating innovative applications on Canada’s first public safety LTE network.

The public safety LTE network is being tested by first responders within the City of Calgary and providing police with high-speed broadband capabilities to quickly access data, images and videos. The Calgary Police Service is able to collect and analyze information from a variety of sources and securely distribute it to officers on the front lines of protecting the public.

“Reliable and uninterrupted communications is a mission-critical priority in emergency situations, and having access to high-speed data via our own broadband spectrum will significantly contribute to all emergency services, providing a coordinated response to ensure public safety,” said Chief Constable Roger Chaffin of the Calgary Police Service. “Coordinated and reliable communication in emergency situations can ultimately help save lives. The need for reliability is one key reason we rely on our own private radio networks for voice communication rather than cellular phones.”

The Calgary Police Service is demonstrating the system and providing feedback on its ability to enhance safety, improve response times to natural and man-made incidents, and help first responders do their jobs more efficiently.

Applications on the public safety LTE network make it possible to share data and video without competing for bandwidth over a shared public network. For example, real-time video intelligence from cameras in police cars or throughout Calgary can be shared quickly and securely with an incident commander who can then analyze and prioritize the information and send it immediately to first responders before they arrive at the scene. In addition to video, Calgary intends to use other applications such as integrating public safety LTE with land mobile radio (LMR) networks and sharing information via computer-aided dispatch (CAD) and records management systems (RMS).

The new Calgary system is owned and operated by Motorola Solutions as part of an LTE Cloud Core which provides access to shared LTE applications, such as video and data analytics, on a subscription-based service for a predictable annual cost. The new system is also being monitored by experienced technologists at Motorola Solutions’ Network Operations Center in Schaumburg, Ill. to help ensure reliable and always-available communications.

The Government of Canada has set aside 20 MHz of the 700 MHz radio spectrum for public safety users. Industry Canada provided a developmental spectrum license to Calgary Police Service for operation in Calgary.

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Oct. 15, 2015 – Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI) now offers government and public safety customers expanded cybersecurity services to help protect against cyber attacks, especially as they share information across agencies and work together to solve crimes. The company’s new Cybersecurity Professional Service is a collaborative effort with customers to help them identify and manage cyber risk within their operations by evaluating technology, processes and staff capabilities and recommending solutions to help agencies respond quickly and effectively to potential breaches.

According to a recent survey of businesses and government agencies, the number of cybersecurity incidents detected by respondents climbed to 42.8 million in 2014, an increase of more than 48 percent in just one year. That’s the equivalent of 117,339 incoming attacks each day for a year.

Cybersecurity Professional Services help maintain the integrity of police investigations by protecting against cyber threats to mission-critical radio networks and real-time information sources such as videos of incidents and photographs and fingerprints of suspects that are shared between agencies. The new service comes in addition to Motorola Solutions capabilities that already help prevent breaches such as network security monitoring and software security updates, which enable customers to maintain the most current and effective versions of programs like records management systems.

New system enhances communications with partnering agencies, increases public safety

NASHVILLE- Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons and Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Colonel Tracy Trott on Wednesday announced the completion of a new statewide radio communications system that will enhance the safety of the public and state troopers and increase efficiency between public safety agencies.

The statewide radio system, engineered by Motorola Solutions and Buford Goff and Associates (BGA), was completed on time and within budget.

Replacing a system that was nearly 40 years old, the new interoperable radio system provides enhanced communications between state troopers and dispatchers as well as the THP and partnering public safety agencies.

“We are proud of the implementation of the radio system and the exceptional capabilities that it provides to help make Tennessee safer,” Commissioner Gibbons said. “The radio communications system has already proven to be an invaluable tool that enables law enforcement and public safety agencies to communicate in real time.”

At the request of Gov. Bill Haslam, the General Assembly appropriated a total of $120 million for the new radio system. The original partners with the THP for the new system were the Department of Correction and the Tennessee Valley Regional Communications System in the Chattanooga area. Other partners now include Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA), Sullivan County, and the cities of Smyrna and Johnson City. The Department of Transportation (TDOT) has purchased the equipment and will soon join the system.

“During the horrific active shooter incident last July in Chattanooga, emergency officials from numerous public safety agencies responding to the various scenes were able to clearly and immediately communicate with one another,” Colonel Trott said. “This allowed the THP command staff to monitor the situation from Nashville and quickly deploy the necessary resources needed in Chattanooga. I believe the real time communication contributed to the swift response of first responders and possibly saved countless lives.”

Motorola Solutions and BGA worked diligently to meet the stringent requirements that were demanded of the system. Due to the careful planning and implementation of the project, Tennessee now has the most advanced radio communications system available that requires one push of a button.

In addition to the current partners, the Department of Safety and Homeland Security encourages other agencies or jurisdictions to become members of the statewide interoperable radio communications system to even further enhance public safety in Tennessee.

Basingstoke, UK, Oct. 6, 2015 – The Seychelles islands face the threat of pirates hijacking local fishing boats and organized crime gangs using the many isolated beaches to traffic illegal drugs. To equip police with real-time information to fight against crime, the Government of the Republic of Seychelles has deployed a Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI) MOTOTRBO digital radio system to enhance police communications.
 
The communications network will be the first to cover the demanding geography of the Seychelles’ 115 islands and surrounding areas in the Indian Ocean, enabling improved dispatch of officers across land and sea for rapid and effective response to criminal activities.

Patrolling the region has been an ongoing challenge for the police force where mountainous island terrain severely disrupts analogue radio and cellular communications coverage. Designed and installed by Communication Specialists Limited (Comm-Spec), the reach of the new digital radio network was extended with MOTOTRBO DR 3000 repeaters. These provide more than 30,000 square kilometers of radio coverage, blanketing the islands and surrounding ocean for the first time.
 
“By deploying a dedicated MOTOTRBO integrated digital radio network the police now have access to real-time communications that provide a seamless, reliable, scalable and secure alternative to the islands’ previously inconsistent analogue radio and cellular networks,” says Tim Clark, director, sales channel products & programmes, Europe and Africa, Motorola Solutions.

The investment in the digital radio system is also helping to reduce unplanned costs for the Seychelles Police. Previously, when analogue radios failed to connect, police officers would rely on personal cell phones to make calls to headquarters, despite often poor cellular coverage and high call costs incurred by the officers and the department. With digital radio connectivity assured throughout the Seychelles, officers can now depend on their MOTOTRBO radios to stay in contact.
 
The MOTOTRBO radio system now connects more than 800 police officers with dispatch at Police Headquarters in the Islands’ capital, Victoria. The MOTOTRBO DP3601 portable two-way radios deliver reliable integrated data communications and enhanced voice capability for Seychelles police officers. Comm-Spec also introduced the Very High Frequency (VHF) version of the MOTOTRBO DP4801 to the force’s radio fleet delivering best-in-class audio with integrated Global Positioning System (GPS). Mayor Emanuel and Motorola Solutions Announce Relocation of Global Headquarters to Chicago

Company will have more than 1,100 employees in the city of Chicago; Motorola Solutions is the 36th company to locate its headquarters in Chicago since 2011

Chicago – Sept. 15, 2015 – Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI), the leading global provider of innovative mission-critical communications solutions for public safety and commercial customers, today announced that the company will relocate its global headquarters from Schaumburg, Ill., to Chicago.

The company, which will have over 1,100 employees working in the City of Chicago, will move into 150,000 square feet of space on six floors at 500 W. Monroe St. in the summer of 2016. This move marks a return to Chicago for the company, which was founded in 1928 on Harrison Street.

“With this move, Motorola Solutions not only returns to its Chicago roots, but the company is doubling down on Chicago’s future,” said Mayor Emanuel. “The company will add hundreds of jobs to our city’s growing technology industry and gain the access to talent that they need for the future we are all building here, in Chicago.”

Approximately 800 employees will be located at the new downtown headquarters as well as the company’s customer briefing center. The Chicago office will include a range of positions including the company’s ventures group, the chief technology office, information technology and software engineering. Motorola Solutions also will maintain its current Americas Sales Headquarters at 224 S. Michigan Ave., occupying a 46,000-square-foot space with approximately 300 employees.

Motorola Solutions will continue to have a significant presence in Schaumburg, with approximately 1,600 employees on its current campus. The company’s manufacturing and delivery operations will move to Elgin, Ill., and it plans to sell the unused real estate on its 277-acre Schaumburg campus for redevelopment.
